With more than 33 years of rich and diversified professional experience; of which 28 years in the UAE; Janardhan’s repertoire of work covers diverse sectors including retail, FMCG, steel & engineering, manufacturing, general trading, real estate, healthcare & pharmaceuticals, travel, hospitality, education, etc.
His principal areas of expertise include transactional documentation, especially contract vetting; and mainland litigation related to corporate, commercial; employment, real estate, contract breach, debt recoveries, intellectual property, etc.
Apart from advising several local corporations, multinational companies, and leading business groups in the UAE and the rest of the GCC states on their corporate and transactional matters in the UAE and in foreign jurisdictions, Janardhan handles, primarily, dispute resolution in the mainland courts and other forums in the UAE. In his extensive and diverse litigation practice which includes commercial, corporate, civil, and criminal litigation, Janardhan has successfully pursued or defended complex disputes and large claims before the UAE courts.
Janardhan regularly advises clients on all employment related issues in the UAE including labour disputes in the Courts. Janardhan also has experience in handling intellectual property related litigation in the UAE and the other GCC countries.
Prior to joining the firm, he was the Co-founder & Head of Corporate Practice at a Dubai based legal consultancy firm for over 17 years. Before moving to Dubai, he practiced litigation at the Hon’ble High Court of Bombay for over 5 years.
1. Lead counsel for a multinational client tasked with drafting and vetting series of contracts for a cross-border transaction valued at close to USD 1bn and spanning multiple jurisdictions;
2. Successfully defended the enforcement of a foreign arbitral award for USD 47mn;
3. Secured a favorable verdict for a leading public sector energy company from India in a bank guarantee dispute involving their ship arrest in the UAE;
4. Successfully defended the action to cancel the registered mark associated with a leading and renowned hotel chain;
5. Successfully defended a claim between partners amounting to AED 20mn for investment and unpaid profits related to a joint venture;
6. Drafted Wills for several HNIs in the UAE; represented legatees in court proceedings to ensure the distribution of the estate in accordance with the Will;
7. Represented successfully a U.S. based corporation in a labor dispute for a claim related to termination dues and damages;
8. Secured a favorable verdict for a high net worth individual in a real estate dispute.
9. Successfully defended several large claims for breach of contract before the UAE courts.
